The Pordenone Renaissance: an exhibition in the Friulian city for Giovanni Antonio de' Sacchis, known as Pordenone

From October 25, 2019 to February 2, 2020, the Pordenone Gallery of Modern Art is hosting the exhibition 'The Pordenone Renaissance.

From Oct. 25, 2019 to Feb. 2, 2020, Pordenone will host, in the halls of the Gallery of Modern Art, an exhibition dedicated to its most illustrious painter, Giovanni Antonio de’ Sacchis better known as the Pordenone (Pordenone, 1483 - Ferrara, 1539), one of the most important artists of the early 16th century. The exhibition, titled The Renaissance of Pordenone and curated by Caterina Furlan and Vittorio Sgarbi, also features sections at the Museo Civico d’Arte and the Duomo, where the works the artist created for his hometown are located. With more than fifty works, the exhibition reconstructs Pordenone’s vicissitudes, interweaving them with those of the contexts in which he was formed and in which he worked: space therefore is given to works by great artists of the time such as Giorgione, Sebastiano del Piombo, Titian, Lorenzo Lotto, Parmigianino, and Romanino. In addition, the exhibition will also reserve insights into Pordenone’s pupils, such as Pomponio Amalteo, Giulio Licinio, Jacopo Bassano, Antonio Sacchiense, and Giovanni De Mio. And again, there will be a section devoted to drawings.

The works are arriving from major Italian and international museums such as the Louvre in Paris, the British Museum in London, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Kunsthistoriches in Vienna, the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, and the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples, as well as from museums and churches in the Friuli, Veneto, and Lombardy regions.

The exhibition opens at the Gallery of Modern Art Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. (mornings open by reservation for schools and groups) and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 7 p.m. At the Museo Civico d’Arte, open Tuesday through Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. (mornings by reservation for schools and groups). Monday closed at both locations. Full ticket costs 8 euros, reduced 5. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog that contains a first section of essays devoted to Pordenone’s artistic production and a second with entries of all the works on display at the Gallery and those in the Museum and Cathedral. It can be found for sale at the Gallery bookshop and at the Civic Museum bookshop. For all information you can visit the exhibition website.
