From April 10 to June 2, 2019, the exhibition Transition, dedicated to the central theme of Péter Korniss’s photography: the disappearance of traditional peasant culture inEastern Europe, will be on display at the Museo di Roma in Trastevere.
The exhibition will present a wide selection of significant shots by Péter Korniss, one of the most relevant figures in contemporary Hungarian photography: from his early images of the Transylvanian village Sic, made in 1967, to the more recent and conceptual series Guest Worker Women in Budapest (2014-17), aimed at presenting the changes and irreversible signs of globalization impacting the culture and family life of the rural village community.
Also featured will be The Guest Worker series (1979-1988), focusing on the lives of commuters.
The exhibition Transition is intended to highlight the consistent effort and conscientious work that have characterized Korniss’s career for fifty years, as well as to present Korniss’s constantly enlivened and renewed photographic sensibility over time.
The exhibition is curated by Krisztina Kovács, director of the Várfok Gallery in Budapest.
