The Families of Man: an exhibition in Aosta on today's society with works by great photographers


Through Oct. 10, the Regional Archaeological Museum in Aosta is hosting 'The Families of Man,' an exhibition of great photographers on the themes of today's society.

Promoted by theCultural Heritage Department of the Autonomous Region of Valle D’Aosta, a photographic exhibition reflecting and recounting the major themes of man and society in recent decades, The Families of Man, opened May 29, 2021 at the Regional Archaeological Museum in Aosta.

The project, conceived and produced by the Electa publishing house, is curated by Elio Grazioli and Walter Guadagnini.



About 50 Italian photographers, including Olivo Barbieri, Gabriele Basilico, Letizia Battaglia, Jacopo Benassi, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Paola De Pietri, Mario Dondero, Andrea Galvani, Francesco Jodice, Armin Linke, Adrian Paci, Antonio Rovaldi, Ferdinando Scianna, Oliviero Toscani, Toni Thorimbert, Franco Vaccari, Paolo Ventura, and Massimo Vitali compose, through about 100 works, a great fresco on contemporary historical, social, economic, environmental of the last thirty years: starting from the fall of the Berlin Wall, to the events related to the still ongoing phenomenon of the pandemic, which has inscribed 2020 among humanity’s historic dates.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog published by Electa (Italian/French) that includes essays by the two curators, a text by Silvia Paoli dedicated to the MoMA exhibition, and Daria Jorioz ’s contribution that traverses the themes of the exhibition.

The photographic sections of the volume are accompanied by short essays entrusted to scholars and experts that cover topics such as politics, economics, society, gender diversity, as well as technology, virtual experimentation, religions and ecology.

The Families of Man will remain open until Oct. 10.
