Starting October 2, 2024 and running until February 23, 2025, the Centro Culturale Altinate San Gaetano in Padua will host the exhibition Disney. The Timeless Art of Storytelling, an exhibition that aims to reveal to the public the complex and fascinating creative journey hidden behind Disney’s timeless narratives. Timeless stories that have enchanted generations of children and continue to enchant adult audiences as well.
After enjoying great success in previous stops at Mudec in Milan, Palazzo Barberini in Rome and Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, the exhibition arrives in Padua. Promoted by the Municipality of Padua - Department of Culture and produced by 24 ORE Cultura-Gruppo 24 ORE, the exhibition is curated by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, with the collaboration of critic and historian of comics and animation cinema Federico Fiecconi.
The exhibition allows visitors to discover the history of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, pioneers in the art ofanimation, and to learn about their famous characters, beloved by audiences of all ages, but also to understand how much creative research work is behind each Disney story through original works from the Disney archives.
The exhibition guides visitors through the discovery of Walt Disney’s masterpieces, linking his stories to the ancient roots of the epic tradition: myths, medieval legends, folklore, fairy tales and fables that have constituted an archetypal narrative heritage for centuries, shared among different cultures around the world. This cultural crossroads, a true melting pot between continents, is also the thread running through the exhibition’s thematic sections. Within them are presented the most famous stories that have inspired Disney films, illustrated through preparatory sketches that explore characters, settings and narrative plots.
The exhibition’s itinerary is also enriched with aninteractive area designed for the youngest children (ages 4 to 10), with numerous educational and playful activities: from images of the Talking Cricket, whose questions invite children to peek through a small peephole, to magnetic puzzles for reassembling characters and sequences of scenes from Disney classics. There is also a space dedicated to drawing, where young visitors can portray their favorite characters and take home a memento of their adventure. Along the exhibition route, adults and children can take souvenir photos with Disney Animation’s most iconic characters or transform themselves into princes and princesses for a day, sitting on the throne of the enchanted castle, as in Sleeping Beauty.
