The city of Agen, France, dedicates a science exhibition to Goya

The Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Agen, France, dedicates an exhibition to Francisco de Goya with some ninety works from museums around the world.

From November 8, 2019 to February 10, 2020, the Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Agen, France, presents the exhibition Goya, génie d’avant-garde, le maître et son école.

The exhibition is part of research organized by the Louvre Museum and the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France, and is supported by the scientific committee of the Musée d’Agen and Goya art specialist Juliet Wilson-Bareau.

Intended to be unusual and innovative, the exhibition aims to define, through paintings, drawings and engravings, the constants of Goya’s production, revealing for the first time to the public the role played by both his collaborators and the artists who worked in his studio. The exhibition will highlight its scientific aspect, and a multisensory immersive space at the beginning of the exhibition will allow visitors to immerse themselves in Francisco de Goya y Lucientes ’ studio and understand the techniques he used.

About ninety works from museums around the world will be on display, including Femme à l’Éventail, dated between 1805 and 1810, from the Louvre Museum.

Some of the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Musée d’Agen, thanks to Count Damase de Chaudordy, who, ambassador to the court of Madrid between 1874 and 1881, acquired five of Goya’s six paintings from the collection of Federico de Madrazo, thus tying the artist to the French city.
