Summer in Trent's castles will be ... a pandemic of art

Summer in the castles of the province of Trent is shaping up to be a real pandemic of art, with exhibitions, displays and newly restored rooms.

A pandemic of art, that’s how Buonconsiglio Castle, Castel Caldes, Castel Beseno and Castel Stenico define this summer’s schedule of events planned at castles in the province of Trento. From the exhibition dedicated to Rembrandt to the inauguration of the restored Count’s Stube at Castel Caldes, from the review that aims to reflect on the preservation of the environment set up at Castel Stenico, to conclude with Mandy Barker ’s exhibition at Castel Beseno.

A summer season, therefore, full of exhibitions, with the presentation of new rooms and striking and captivating displays.

Castel Caldes, reopened to the public as of July 10 after its forced closure due to a health emergency, will present on July 20 the restored Stube del Conte, a large room carefully furnished down to the smallest detail. The restoration work lasted more than two years and was overseen by the museum, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage: it involved the plasterwork, inlaid fir floor, wall covering and original wooden ceiling, restoring the room to its former glory. The furniture, furnishings and the magnificent olla stove dating from the Baroque period come from the collections of the Buonconsiglio Castle. In conjunction with the inauguration of the restored room, there will also be an exhibition dedicated to Rembrandt, titled Rembrandt | 1606-1669, in which a collection of engravings made by the Leiden master belonging to the Lazzari Turco Menz collection, donated to the Trento City Hall in 1924 and kept in the Buonconsiglio Castle, will be on display. On view from July 21 to Nov. 1, 2020, the exhibition aims to show the Dutch artist’s graphic work to the public. Of the forty or so sheets that are part of the museum’s collection, sixteen are pulled from Rembrandt’s original plates and with watermarked papers that attest to their authenticity and dating, such as The Death of the Virgin andSelf-Portrait of 1633.

Another exhibition is on view at Castel Beseno from July 9 to Nov. 1, 2020: it is Not in my planet, showcasing photographs by the award-winning Mandy Barker. Central is the theme ofpollution, also caused by an abundance of waste. The exhibition is divided into four sections: Shoal, Soup, Indefinitive and Snow Flurry, through which the photographer aims to stimulate reflection and an emotional response provoked by the contradiction between initial aesthetic attraction and the subsequent message of awareness. The exhibition stems from a collaboration with the Purification Agency of the Autonomous Province of Trento and waste collection agencies as part of an information campaign to combat plastic pollution. The photographs presented have been reprocessed with innovative and sophisticated digital techniques and are based on photographs of objects concretely found on beaches or adrift in the ocean.

At Castel Stenico, on the other hand, the exhibition #Proudtoshare - Our Biosphere, Our Future will be on view until October 30, 2020. Dedicated to the Biosphere Reserve "Alpi Ledrensi e Judicaria, " it tells with the use also of audiovisual materials the characteristics and values of the territory recognized under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program, the network of these excellences in Italy and around the world, and the various opportunities given by belonging to a worldwide program. Also present will be a number of set-ups created by the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea showing the network of Italian Biosphere Reserves, specifying their strong relationship with typical agri-food production and quality food and wine.
