From June 20 to September 30, 2018, the Sabauda Gallery in Turin is hosting the exhibition"Silence on the Canvas. Spanish Still Life from Sánchez Cotán to Goya."
The exhibition dedicated to still life presents this theme through works that include the accurate depiction of the objects of daily life and nature typical of the 17th century and Baroque compositions rich in floral decorations and symbolic meanings, up to the consecration of this genre in the age of the academies.
Canvases by Sánchez Cotán,Juan de Zurbarán, Meléndez and Goya, among others, are on display.
Also featured are nine Italian and Flemish paintings from the collections of the Galleria Sabauda, including Peter Binoit’s Still Life with Fruit, Sweets, Shellfish, a Glass and a Mouse, Jan Brueghel’s The Vanity of Human Life, and Cornelis De Heem’s Vase with Flowers and Insects. Three great nations are thus celebrated: Spain, Belgium and Italy.
The exhibition is curated by Ángel Aterido, a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, and is the result of a collaboration with Bozar - Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and a partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo.
