Stephen Unterthiner's spectacular animal photographs are on display at the Fortress of Bard

The Fortress of Bard has opened its doors to the exhibition On Assignment, A Wild Life. Photographs by Stefano Unterthiner, which presents for the first time images of reportages made by photographer Stefano Unterthiner (Aosta, 1970) during the period from 2006 to 2017 on commission from National Geographic Magazine.

As many as 77 photographs are on display, divided into ten reportages: penguin, Crozet; swan, Japan; entellus, India; Andean fauna, Chile; terns, Seychelles; Komodo varanus, Indonesia; alpine fauna, Italy; macaque, Indonesia; cricket, Italy; kangaroos, Australia. Added to these is a section titled A Look to the Future, which presents the photographic preview of the project A Family in the Arctic, dedicated to the more than one-year stay, from 2019 to 2021, that the photographer and his family are making in the Svalbard Islands, an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, with the intention of documenting and communicating the phenomenon of climate change.

Also presented is the 26-minute documentary A Wild Life, which chronicles Stefano Unterthiner’s fieldwork through previously unseen material shot during several assignments made by the photographer and presented in the exhibition.

The exhibition fits right into the cultural line that the Fortress of Bard dedicates to the exploration and photographic documentation of the natural environment through national and international artists.

The exhibition is open until July 12.
