Sarzana, at Cardelli & Fontana's Super Amateur solo exhibition by young Marco Salvetti

From March 25 to May 13, 2023, Sarzana's Cardelli & Fontana Gallery will host "Super Amateur," the first solo gallery show of young Marco Salvetti, a Tuscan artist who offers very free and instinctive expressionist art.

First gallery exhibition for young Tuscan artist Marco Salvetti (Pietrasanta, 1983), who is exhibiting at the solo show Super Amateur at Cardelli & Fontana gallery in Sarzana (La Spezia), from March 25 to May 13, 2023. On display are a series of works belonging to the last year of production accompanied by a text in the form of a dialogue between critic Luca Bertolo and the artist. After the Crash Test exhibition in 2022, held at Cardelli & Fontana’s Opificio Vaccari, the collaboration between the artist and the Ligurian gallery thus continues.

The references of Marco Salvetti, who lives and works in the province of Lucca, range from abstract expressionism to the art of Nicolas de Staël to give rise to a painting that hovers between abstraction and figuration and does not disdain reflection on the object. A fundamental tool in his research is drawing even though the artist then, while often applying paper to canvas with a technique almost reminiscent of collage, paints quite freely without using reference images. His works spring from art history, color theory, as well as personal experience.

“Even more than in the past,” says the artist, “I have to explore, learn, test myself. It is the bright restlessness of all artists, the mange. [...] But one cannot totally renounce the mystery of creation itself, the unspeakable that lies in our hands. Art has always touched on universal feelings (life and death, passion, the sacred, evil), simply because that is where those anxieties that have been devouring us since the very beginning are located. While trying to escape death or exorcise horror, the artist questions forms: what is an image? Where does its power lie? Why are some images more powerful than others such that they produce a crack, a different meaning in things? Can an image, music, change us? Why write and paint, despite everything?”

The exhibition is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5 to 7:30 p.m. For information: www.cardelliefontana.com, galleria@cardelliefontana.com, phones 0187.626374 and 339.607927272.
