Sarah Sze stars at the Gagosian Galllery in Rome

American artist Sarah Sze (Boston, 1969) will be featured in an exhibition to be held at Gagosian Gallery in Rome from October 13, 2018 to January 12, 2019. Sarah Sze is known for using systems of elements that, based on generative structures, unite constellations of images across multiple mediums such as sculpture, painting, printmaking and video installation. At the exhibition, titled simply Sarah Sze, there will be the latest video installation to be part of the Timekeeper seire begun in 2015 that will transform the gallery oval into a large “magic lantern,” an immersive environment suspended between the worlds of sculpture and film.

Also on display will be a new series of paintings, in which the artist has adapted the sensibility of his sculptural language to the characteristics of the flat collage medium with layers of paint, ink, paper, prints and objects that make the three-dimensionality of the sculptures adhere to the two-dimensionality of the collage.

In addition, his first outdoor sculpture, a large stone boulder split in half like a geode that features a sunset sky on each surface and evokes the imagery found in some Chinese gongshi stones and Renaissance spiritual subjects, will be presented in the gallery in November.
