It is scheduled from March 10 to June 17, 2018, the exhibition Sacred and Profane. The Arts between the 1500s and 1600s, at the Padiglione delle Feste in Castrocaro Terme (Forlì-Cesena). The exhibition intends to “hook up” with the great Forlì exhibition L’eterno e il tempo tra Michelangelo e Caravaggio in order to propose a selection of graphics, paintings and sacred goldsmiths at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries: this historical period, the presentation reads, “is characterized by political, religious and therefore artistic contrasts. It was a period rich in cultural humus, of great travail and research, which saw at work a fruitful generation of artists often struggling, due to the different personalities not only artistic but also ideological, between the Divine and the Earthly.”
On display are sacred silverware (monstrances, pyxes, crosses), graphics by artists such as Guido Reni(The Madonna and Child with St. John), Agostino Carracci(Andromeda) and Rembrandt(The Triumph of Mordecai), as well as paintings: The comparison of different iconographies on the subject of St. Jerome, and works with sacred themes typical of Counter-Reformation art (martyrs, saints, sacred narratives), but also various secular subjects, stand out in particular. The public will be able to see works by artists such as Giovan Battista Crespi, Girolamo Troppa, Francesco Albani, and Hendrick Aerts.
The exhibition, curated by Paola Babini, is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday by appointment by calling +39 328 7747418. Ticket prices: admission 5 euros, reduced 3 euros.
