Rome kicks off exhibition on Alberto Sordi on the centenary of his birth

From September 16, 2020 to January 31, 2021, the exhibition 'Alberto Sordi 1920-2020' is scheduled in Rome to celebrate the centenary of the actor's birth.

Alberto Sordi 1920-2020, the exhibition celebrating the centenary of the actor’s birth, opened its doors Sept. 16 in Rome and will remain open until Jan. 31, 2021.

Postponed due to theCoronavirus emergency, the exhibition is housed in the spaces of the historic villa where Alberto Sordi lived in Piazzale Numa Pompilio, near the Baths of Caracalla, and is curated by Alessandro Nicosia, president of C.O.R. - Creare Organizzare Realizzare, together with journalists Gloria Satta and Vincenzo Mollica.

Scripts, props and costumes are just some of the artifacts from Albertone ’s career that can be admired at the exhibition, and then continue at the Teatro dei Dioscuri where the television program Storia di un italiano, to which Sordi was very attached, will be screened.

“Precisely in order to respect the history of this house, which will soon become a museum, I tried not to alter the environments that remained intact after the actor’s death, just as he had wanted and experienced them, making them dialogue with the exhibition,” explains curator Nicosia.

“We will finally be able to enter Alberto Sordi’s house, see what are the places of his life and the objects that characterized his being and his ability to bring Roman-ness to the screen to make us laugh and reflect on our characteristics,” commented Virginia Raggi, mayor of Rome.
