The Gallery of Modern Art in Rome presents the exhibition Aesthetics of Deformation from June 6, 2024 to February 2, 2025. Protagonists of Italian Expressionism.

Returning to talk about the aesthetics ofItalian Expressionism is a way to return to the analysis of an artistic language that confronted the figurative world of the interwar years.

Looking towards the international Expressionist movements, the protagonists of our country represented objective reality seen through their subjective consciousness, with in the foreground the deforming soul of the artist in crisis that reverberates in the deformation given by the painting itself. On display will be a selection of works from the Iannaccone collection in Milan relating to the expressionist line of Italian art between the 1930s and 1950s - from the Roman School to the Corrente group - in an evocative and stimulating dialogue with paintings and sculptures preserved in the collections of the Gallery of Modern Art.

Among the artists featured: Afro, Renato Birolli, Primo Conti, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Felice Casorati, Bruno Cassinari, Ferruccio Ferrazzi, Achille Funi, Renato Guttuso, Carlo Levi, Mario Mafai, Marino Mazzacurati, Ennio Morlotti, Emilio Notte, Fausto Pirandello, Ottone Rosai, Antonietta Raphaël, Aligi Sassu, Scipione, Luigi Spazzapan, Ernesto Treccani, Giulio Turcato, Emilio Vedova, Alberto Ziveri and others.
