From August 13 to September 25, 2022, San Remo ’s Forte Santa Tecla will host the exhibition Work in Progress. The Becoming of Form, which exhibits works by Roberto Altmann.
Metamorphosis, transformation and dynamism: these are the characteristics of his works on display, some created exclusively for the Forte Santa Tecla exhibition route. Canvases, sculptural works and the Meta-Forma installation offer visitors the possibility to interpret them according to personal sensibility. A breaking down and recomposing of form that recalls for the cubist abstractionism of Picasso, an artist for whom Altmann has strong empathy, as evidenced by his reinterpretation of Guernica featured in the exhibition.
The continuous becoming, marked both by the visual transition from one material to another and by the graphic sign itself, contains within itself the essence of becoming, a theme that runs throughout the exhibition. Metamorphosis seems to happen instantaneously before the eyes of the viewer who has the feeling of observing something known and familiar but transformed at the same time.
This continuous creative flow never stops because it is an integral part of Altmann’s creative work that throughout his career has used experimentation as a communicative medium. A 360-degree experimentation that involves both the choice of medium, from canvas to polymateric sculptures, and the form of expression: the graphic sign is transformed from drawing, understood in the classical and descriptive sense, to the sign, to the free and richly suggestive gesture.
The exhibition includes a performance scheduled for Friday, September 9, at 9 p.m., at which the artist will combine his technical skills with light and music, on the terraces of the Bastions of the Fort.
It will be open for viewing Tuesday through Sunday from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. It will be possible to visit the Fort and the terraces throughout the period of the exhibition.
Tickets: Full 4 euros, reduced 2 euros for 18-25 year olds. Free under 18.
