Retrospective, the exhibition on the shots of Robert Capa, stops in Monza

At theArengario in Monza, the public can visit from October 7, 2018 to January 27, 2019 the major exhibition dedicated to the shots of one of the greatest photojournalists of the 20th century, Robert Capa (Budapest, 1913 - Thai Binh, Indochina, 1954).

The exhibition entitled Retrospective will present more than one hundred black-and-white images in which the major conflicts of the 20th century, from 1936 to 1954, that Capa witnessed are depicted. Suffering, the cruelty of wars, and misery are captured in his shots; an example is the death of the militiaman in the Spanish Civil War.

Divided into thirteen sections, the exhibition ends with the section"Gerda Taro and Robert Capa," added especially for the exhibition’s stop in Monza: here a portrait of Robert, one of Gerda, his companion, taken by Robert, and a double portrait of them will be on display.

Denis Curti, curator of the exhibition, says, “This exhibition lends itself to different readings, and visitors will be able to decide on which to direct their attention: recent history, wars, passions, friends. This is because for Robert Capa, photography was a physical and mental affair at the same time. A political matter, but also a sentimental one.”

Retrospective is sponsored by the City of Monza and is organized by Civita Mostre in collaboration with Magnum Photos and the Casa dei Tre Oci.
