The Museo Civico di Noto - Ex Convento di Santa Chiara hosts until October 22, 2020 the exhibition Io, Renato Guttuso, curated by Giuliana Fiori.

The exhibition is part of La Sicilia, i Siciliani e la sicilitudine and is the first exhibition event organized by the Sicilian cultural association Sikarte.

This exhibition is intended to celebrate the great artist, revealing his passions and soul, without neglecting his political and artistic commitment. A tale through a careful selection of works, including oils and drawings, that will reveal the Guttuso man, artist, intellectual, politician and set designer. Each work will show a public or private side of his life: from his nostalgia for Sicily (island landscapes) to his move to Rome (his “roofs”); from his affections/love (portraits of his wife, of politicians with whom he had personal as well as professional relationships) toeros (nudes of models), to his political commitment. Also presented is his rich production of set designs for the theater and the collection of sketches of stage costumes, made between the 1960s and 1970s.

At the same time, the exhibition is also proposed as a “means” to recount Renato Guttuso in his intimate everyday life, whose emotional, intense and passionate iter of which he transfused with full force into his creative adventure. A twofold interpretation of his works from which always transpires a dense vitality and a free (and often transgressive) all-round participation in the reality of his time."
