In Cosenza, at Palazzo Arnone, an exhibition dedicated to Rembrandt, one of the most significant protagonists of the seventeenth century, will be on display from January 25 to March 24, 2019. For the first time in Calabria, a number of his engravings will be exhibited: depictions where men with turbans and oriental draperies provide a counterpoint to the great narratives of the Bible.
For the artist, etching is not a minor art compared to painting and sculpture, but rather a parallel field of stylistic experimentation.
His etchings, being reproducible in various copies, are the most effective means of circulating his name and art.
The exhibition is organized on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of his death and presents the artist’s complex ideas typical of the era in which he lived.
Visitors will see more than 30 original engravings from private collections, including the Ceribelli Collection.
The exhibition Rembrandt. Graphic cycles, his finest engravings, organized by theN.9 Association in collaboration with the Polo Museale della Calabria and sponsored by theEmbassy of the Netherlands, will be curated by Alessandro Mario and Marco Toscano.
