Reggia di Colorno: the passion of the Dukes of Parma for European porcelain

From April 18 to June 28, 2020, the Reggia di Colorno will host "Table Adornments. European 18th-century Porcelain from the Dukes of Parma."

The Reggia di Colorno (Parma) is hosting from April 18 to June 28, 2020 the exhibition Adornments for the Table. European 18th-century Porcelain of the Du kes of Parma, which aims to highlight the taste of the court of the Dukes of Parma in full agreement with the French models developed between the 18th and 19th centuries. A taste that was already widespread in all the major courts of Europe when Duke Philip of Bourbon settled in the Palace of Colorno with his wife Louise Elizabeth of France in 1749.

Luisa Elisabeth’s passion for porcelain is documented in numerous letters, and the exhibition will display precisely the porcelain objects from almost all the European manufactures that were present in the residences of the Dukes of Parma: fine tableware, coffee sets, figurines, ice cream cups and curious objects signed by Meissen, Sèvres, Vincennes, Chantilly and Doccia.
The exhibition will be set up on the main floor of the Reggia, following a thematic division.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Province of Parma, the Uffizi Galleries of Florence and Antea and is promoted by the Province of Parma, the Municipality of Parma, the Municipality of Colorno and the Complesso Monumentale della Pilotta. The exhibits come from Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome, Complesso Monumentale della Pilotta in Parma, Uffizi Galleries, Museo della Villa Medicea di Poggio di Caiano, Musei Reali in Turin and Fondazione Cariparma, and the State Archives.
