Prato, Pecci Center pays tribute to great collector Alessandro Grassi with major exhibition

The Pecci Center in Prato is hosting, from September 7 to December 2, 2018, the exhibition Color Code. Works from the Collection of Alessandro Grassi

Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of its opening (1988-2018), the Pecci Center in Prato presents the exhibition Codice colore. Works from the Collection of Alessandro Grassi, which aims to commemorate, through his passion for art and color, the industrialist and collector born in Prato in 1942, established in Milan with a printing ink company, who passed away in Tuscany in 2009. Considered among the most significant Italian collectors, from the 1980s Grassi was an early supporter of Transavanguardia and a staunch advocate of postmodern painting and contemporary photography from the European and American areas.

The exhibition, curated by Stefano Pezzato and on view from Sept. 7 to Dec. 2, 2018, focuses on a selection of works from Alessandro Grassi’s collection now on loan to the Pecci Center, but also includes loans from the MART in Rovereto and from private individuals to outline a significant if synthetic path within a collection that is estimated to have collected up to 700 works by more than 280 artists, including a hundred of a photographic nature, over three decades. The museum layout offers some of the major nuclei of the collection, reflecting the collector’s interests and criteria, highlighting his predilection for painting and photography based on expressive and emotional values conveyed mainly through the use of color.
