From March 30 to June 23, 2019, the WeGil space in Rome hosts the exhibition Poets in Rome. Made Superb by Friendship, which brings together more than 250 original photographs portraying writers and poets such as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Alberto Moravia, Amelia Rosselli and Dario Bellezza, to name a few, filmed on the streets of the capital, during patrols, presentation evenings, dinners, house parties, all the way to the memory of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s death at theIdroscalo in Ostia, with shots by, among others, Antonio Sansone, Tazio Secchiaroli, Rodrigo Pais and Dario Bellini. Also on display will be first editions, inserts, magazines and rare recordings.
The exhibition, curated by Giuseppe Garrera and Igor Patruno, is the story of an entire season, of an enchanted moment in the city of Rome, between the 1960s and 1970s, when poets and writers, happy and eager to create, formed a kind of community of friendship. Through hundreds of photos and documents in the exhibition, projects, publications, aids and exchanges of mutual admiration are narrated, and, above all, the blissful wanderings through the city of Rome of unsurpassed poets who made a life out of poetry (it is Penna and Pasolini who point everyone to the dust and sunshine of the streets of Rome). Above all, the photographs, many previously unpublished, restore the bright and living trace of this extraordinary season and the strength and splendor of unique bonds.
A tribute, which sees the blossoming, if only for a moment, of a civilization, with at its center the grace of Pier Paolo Pasolini, the lucidity of Alberto Moravia, the generosity of Attilio Bertolucci, the lofty visions of Amelia Rosselli, Anna Maria Ortese and Elsa Morante, and the lesson of happiness, unattainable, of Sandro Penna.
An exemplary moment of poetic existences. The exhibition is promoted by the Lazio Region, organized by AGCI Lazio in collaboration with LAZIOcrea. For details of the event program you can visit www.wegil.it.
