Milan ’s Dep Art Gallery is hosting, from June 20 to September 21, 2019, a solo exhibition of works by Pino Pinelli (Catania, Italy, 1938) that presents a series of works created between 1973 and 1976, a period in which the artist devoted himself to exploring issues related to monochrome and the potential of color. The exhibition, entitled Monochrome (1973-1976). Color as Destiny and as Prophecy, curated by Francesco Tedeschi, features 13 works, some diptychs, triptychs and a polyptych, which are based on the use of primary colors and in some cases complementary colors, and refer to a critical reading of the frame-form, that is, to the overcoming of the limit of the painting, understood as a set of canvas and frame. Works that already indicate what will be his path, the “breaking of the picture” first and the “dissemination” later, both from 1976.
Accompanying the exhibition is a monographic volume (Dep Art Gallery), edited by Francesco Tedeschi, in which part of the works executed by Pinelli in those years is catalogued. For all information you can visit the official website of the Dep Art Gallery.
