The Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna is hosting until June 17, 2018 the exhibition"I Carracci tra natura e storia. Bologna and the Reformation of Art," an exhibition connected to the ongoing retrospective at the San Domenico Museums in Forlì,"The Eternal and Time between Michelangelo and Caravaggio."
If the Forlì exhibition aims to present to the public the fascination of a century between the Last Renaissance and the new horizons of the Baroque age, this theme is explored in Bologna within the rooms of the Mannerists and Carraccis in the famous Pinacoteca.
A renewal that resulted in the Carracci with their Accademia degli Incamminati, which initiated the study of truth and a new sensitivity to nature.
Visitors are thus invited to admire not only the Carracci masterpieces that belong to the Pinacoteca’s normal exhibition itinerary, such as Annibale’sAssumption, Ludovico’s Pala Bargellini or Agostino’s Communion of St. Jerome, but also two canvases by Ludovico made for the Certosa of Bologna that are generally kept in storage and are on display on the occasion of this exhibition: these are the Crowning with Thorns and the Flagellation.
This emphasizes the importance of Bologna in terms of artistic renewal in Italian and European painting between the 16th and 17th centuries.
