Picasso sculptor stars in exhibition at Borghese Gallery

The Galleria Borghese in Rome is hosting an exhibition from October 23, 2018, to present the sculptor Picasso.

The first Italian exhibition dedicated to Picasso the sculptor will be on view from October 23, 2018 to February 3, 2019 at the Galleria Borghese in Rome.

For a long time Picasso’s sculptural activity remained little known, although the celebrated artist maintained a privileged relationship with it. Picasso first confronted sculpture, particularly that of Roman antiquity and the Renaissance, during one of his trips to Rome and Naples in 1917, in the company of Jean Cocteau and Igor Stravinsky.

The exhibition will display to the public 55 masterpieces created by Picasso from 1902 to 1961, as well as unpublished atelier photographs and videos that tell their context.
Themes include stories and myths, bodies and figures, objects and fragments.

"Picasso. Sculpture" is curated by Anna Coliva and Diana Widmaier-Picasso and is part of the international Picasso-Méditerranée program; it is also supported by FENDI, institutional partner of the Borghese Gallery.
