Picasso between Cubism and Classicism: the major exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale

From September 22, 2017 to January 21, 2018, the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome is hosting the exhibition Picasso. Between Cubism and Classicism: 1915-1925 dedicated to the great Spanish painter Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, 1973), a significant exponent of Cubist art. The exhibition, in particular, intends to investigate the period of his production between 1915 and 1925, and specifically will delve into Picasso’s use of the pastiche technique, “analyzing,” the presentation reads, “the procedures by which Picasso used it as a tool in the service of modernism, in a journey from realism to abstraction among the most original and extraordinary in the history of modern art.”

The exhibition, then, also continues at Palazzo Barberini where, in the hall frescoed by Pietro da Cortona, the large curtain made for the ballet Parade Parade, 17 meters long and 11 meters high, which the Italian public recently had the opportunity to appreciate this summer at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples, where it was the protagonist of a dedicated exhibition, will be on display for the first time in Rome. The exhibition, curated by Olivier Berggruen in collaboration with Anunciata von Liechtenstein, includes works from several international museums, from the Musée Picasso and the Centre Pompidou in Paris to the Guggenheim, MoMA and the Metropolitan in New York, the Tate in London and the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.

Hours: Monday through Thursday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The ticket office closes one hour earlier. Tickets: full 15 euros, reduced 13 euros, audio guide included. Children and children under 18 get in free.
