Opening today, March 4, 2017, is the exhibition Piacenza is dedicating to Guercino (real name Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, Cento, 1591 - Bologna, 1666), which will be held at the Musei Civici di Palazzo Farnese until June 4.
The exhibition, entitled Guercino in Piacenza, curated by Daniele Benati and Antonella Gigli, with a scientific committee composed of Antonio Paolucci, Fausto Gozzi and David Stone, presents a selection of twenty works by Guercino, covering the entire career of the great Emilian artist. There will therefore be exceptional masterpieces such as the Cleopatra from Palazzo Rosso, Et in Arcadia Ego from Palazzo Barberini, the Trinity from the Unicredit collection, and theGuardian Angel from Fano.
But the event also has another center, namely Piacenza Cathedral: until June 4, in fact, visitors will have the opportunity to take a close look at the frescoes that Guercino painted inside the dome of the cathedral between 1626 and 1627. For the occasion, new lighting has been created, curated by Davide Groppi. A multimedia system will make Guercino’s masterpiece more understandable to visitors. Finally, on Wednesday, March 22 and Thursday, March 23, a conference will be held at the Civic Museums of Palazzo Farnese that will gather leading experts on the art of the painter from Cento, who will take stock of the latest updates on Guercino.
