Photographs from the archives of Fondazione Fiera Milano on display at the Triennale

Perspective. Viaggio negli Archivi di Fondazione Fiera Milano is the photography exhibition scheduled from November 23, 2018 to January 20, 2019 set up at the Milan Triennale, promoted by Fondazione Fiera Milano in collaboration with AFIP International (Associazione Fotografi Italiani Professionisti) and the Triennale, under the patronage of the Lombardy Region and the City of Milan and curated by OMA/Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli.
The aim of the exhibition is to enhance photography as a contemporary art form by allowing the public to come into contact through different formats with the original documents of theFondazione Fiera Milano Archives, which have been the subject of a massive digitization and cataloguing campaign since 2011. A unique opportunity to learn about the immense heritage through an original path of interaction between the public and archival material.

The exhibition is also the first important episode of the concrete realization of the project on Photographic Archives wanted by the Foundation and AFIP International with Triennale di Milano, a project that provides for the collection, preservation and enhancement of a documentary heritage of images conceived as a real cultural deposit, organized and usable through an online platform and a calendar of exhibition and cultural events for the public.

As Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli explains, “The photographic archive of Fondazione Fiera Milano is a treasure trove: generic or authorial, intimate or grandiose images, of sophisticated displays or industrial machinery, of food or pistons, of architecture or livestock, of great personalities or ordinary people: worlds that are different but also at different times coexisted within the same space, evidence of a wonder machine in continuous cycle. The exhibition is at the same time a reflection on the archive and the history of the Fiera Campionaria: a privileged window on the construction of Italian and international modernity.”
