From April 13 to September 5, 2022, the MANN National Archaeological Museum in Naples, in the Sala del Toro Farnese, presents the photographic exhibition È stata la mano di Dio - Immagini dal set, curated by Maria Savarese, financed by the Campania Region under POC Cultura projects and produced by Film Commission Regione Campania.
Fifty-one shots that photographer Gianni Fiorito took when Paolo Sorrentino shot his latest film È stato la mano di Dio will be on display. The images on display are not intended to be a replay of the scenes shot or even a backstage chronicle, but a kind of journey into the director’s personal Grande Bellezza. The photographic lens runs from Marechiaro to Posillipo, from Vomero to the Quartieri Spagnoli, from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium to Piazza del Plebiscito. And they retrace places much loved by Sorrentino such as Capri, the Sorrento coast, Stromboli.
“I return to Paolo Sorrentino’s narrative of cinema, through Gianni Fiorito’s photographs, after five years,” says the curator. " The last time was with The Young Pope exhibition that was held at the Royal Palace in Naples. This time the excitement is even greater mainly for two reasons: first, it is a strongly autobiographical and intimate film, and then because the photographs were set around some of the most beautiful and important ancient artworks in the world. It was not easy to approach such a sensitive subject in such an impressive context in a discreet and non-invasive way."
