The appointment with"Masterpiece for Milan," an initiative now in its 11th edition, is back again this year.
Protagonist from October 30, 2018 to January 20, 2019 will be Paolo Veronese’sAdoration of the Magi, which will be on display at the Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini.
The large canvas comes from the church of Santa Corona in Vicenza and was painted by Veronese between 1573 and 1575 for the Sacra Spina Chapel, which is located inside the Vicenza church.
The work depicts a ruined temple under which the Holy Family is represented in the wooden hut. Surrounding the latter are the richly attired Magi, pages and servants, and the patron, portrayed behind the Moorish king, namely wealthy Vicentine textile merchant Marcantonio Cogollo.
The initiative is curated by Nadia Righi, director of the Diocesan Museum of Milan, and Giovanni Carlo Federico Villa, honorary director of the Civic Museums of Vicenza, under the patronage of the Archdiocese of Milan, the Lombardy Region and the City of Milan.
