On the occasion of OPEN 20. International Exhibition of Sculpture and Installations, conceived by Paolo De Grandis in parallel with the Venice International Film Festival, the installation INVISIBLE PEOPLE created by Yoko Ono, an artist whose provocative work challenges the viewer’s interpretation of art and the world around her, will be presented. Since the beginning of her career, she has been a conceptualist whose work has embraced theater, education, filmmaking, music and writing.
This installation is a project with a long elaboration: a symbolic and metaphorical vision of the migrants’ journey, between imagination and poetry in order not to forget. The work will be exhibited at the Mura delle Cattive, considered one of the symbols of Palermo. The "passeggiata delle Cat tive“ is a nineteenth-century monument in Palermo overlooking the sea placed on the civic walls near the Porta Felice and close to the Foro Italico. The name of the Walls dates back to the 1800s; for many centuries they were the extreme defense of the city for the people of Palermo. History tells of a 19th-century terrace reserved for the ”bad ones," that is, the captives (from the Latin captivae) of grief. As widowsm, in fact, they could take their walks without being bothered.
The installation will be open until August 19.
Promoted by the City of Palermo - Department of Culture, curated by Jon Hendricks and Paolo De Grandis, coordinated by Carlotta Scarpa the exhibition is organized by PDG Arte Communications in collaboration with Valorizzazioni Culturali.
