The Sala dei Gigli of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence hosts from November 29, 2019 to January 15, 2020 the exhibition Novecento lunare. Lucio Fontana, Eliseo Mattiacci, Fausto Melotti, Giulio Turcato, which is part of the 50th anniversary of the first man on the moon, an event that occurred on July 20, 1969.
Curated by Sergio Risalita, the exhibition is a project of Museo Novecento and is intended to be a poetic tribute to the moon; the initiative is part of the program of F-LIGHT 2019, the City of Florence’s festival of lights that will redesign the nocturnal face of the city for a month.
Numerous works of art created after World War II recall, in an abstract and informal language, the lunar surface and the absence of gravity.
Novecento lunare intends to evoke through a selection of works by Italian artists the conquest of space and the moon landing: works inspired by the moon and its orbit. These include Lucio Fontana ’s Concetto spaziale from 1961, Fausto Melotti ’s La cometa made in 1978, Eliseo Mattiacci ’s Riflesso del cielo from 1989 and Superficie lunare compiuta by Giulio Turcato in 1971.
Hours: Daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The ticket is included with admission to Palazzo Vecchio.
