From August 22 to September 20, 2020, the new solo exhibition of Korean artist Kim Seung Hwan, entitled Organisms en plein air, will be open to the public at Udine’s Braida Copetti Park. About twenty sculptures in different materials (bronze, stone, and steel), made between 2006 and 2020, will be on display, including two previously unseen large-scale sculptures. These will be in dialogue with the twenty-five sculptures by international artists that have formed the core of the Sculpture Park in Premariacco (Udine) since 2018.
“We are particularly proud to bring Kim Seung Hwan to Italy,” commented Giorgio Copetti, founder and owner of Galleria Copetti Antiquari. “After the first exhibition opened in June, which was an important signal of restart after the lockdown, this new appointment gives an additional international scope to our Sculpture Park.”
All the sculptures bear the title Organism, except for the two unseen, monumental-sized (eight by four meters) sculptures-these are titled Clouds, Clouds-Organism.
“I confidently exhibit my works at Braida Copetti and I am happy for the invitation,” said the artist. “I consider the Park a beautiful and well-kept place, where nature and art harmonize with each other.” He added, “I have tried to understand nature and the human being through a method of making that extracts and blends the particularities of the forms of plants, insects, crustaceans, stalactites, lava, and ancient trees from around the world. My intention was to give the viewer an interesting feeling when passing under the work. The mirror finish on the surface reflects the surrounding landscape and the movements of passersby, creating a relationship between the viewer, the landscape and the work.”
