Online is the first virtual exhibition dedicated to Maria Lai (Ulassai, 1919 - Cardedu, 2013), titled Lente sul mondo (Lens on the World), to reveal her artistic production through a selection of works created in different periods of her life.
The exhibition presents more than twenty autograph works by the artist from Ulassai, some previously unpublished works presented to the public for the first time, a video story made especially for the initiative, and the possibility to observe the details of the works in high resolution.
Lens on the World aims to lead the public to reflect on macrocosms starting from microcosms, making Ulassai, a small village threatened by landslides in Ogliastra, a metaphor for the world. The works on view belong to the collection of the Art Station Museum, some previously unpublished, and are intended to investigate Maria Lai’s ambition to find a universal artistic language through the use of metaphor, a fundamental tool for understanding the artist’s production of the past three decades.
Her poetic language makes the relationship with the self extend to infinity: an inclination that is clearly visible in the series of geographies, or cosmic visions where the artist shows a strong projection toward the universe.
