From October 30, 2020, to January 31, 2021, the Museo della Città in Livorno will host the exhibition Vissi d’arte - Cento capolavori dalle collezioni Della Ragione e Iannaccone, conceived by Sergio Risaliti, director of the Museo Novecento in Florence, and curated by Eva Francioli, Elena Pontiggia, and Sergio Risaliti.
For the first time, works from two important collections dedicated to20th-century Italian art, that of Alberto Della Ragione (1892-1973) and that of Giuseppe Iannaccone (1955), who shared a passion for Italian art, especially between the two wars, will be brought together in profound dialogue. Thus, masterpieces by great masters such as Giorgio Morandi, Carlo Carrà, Renato Guttuso, Emilio Vedova, Renato Birolli, Mario Mafai, Scipione, Filippo De Pisis, Felice Casorati, Aligi Sassu, Ottone Rosai, Carlo Levi and Fausto Pirandello will be on display.
The two collections are parallel and complementary: the two collectors, in addition to being both passionate about Italian art, were both born in Campania but then pursued their entire careers in northern Italy (Della Ragione in Genoa and Iannaccone in Milan).
Alberto Della Ragione’s collection came to Florence as a donation made in the aftermath of the 1966 flood: the engineer decided to compensate the city affected by the tragic event by entrusting 240 of his works to Florence, probably motivated by the fact that it was here that modern collecting had been born.
Giuseppe Iannaccone’s collection reveals an extraordinary capacity in his choices, guided by a profound conceptual coherence and critical intelligence, which led him toward a painting characterized by an original romantic and expressionistic warmth.
The title Vissi d’arte emphasizes the passion shared by the two collectors, who dedicated their lives to art and masterpieces.
The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Livorno in collaboration with the City of Florence and the Museo Novecento.
Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Mondays.
Tickets: Full 8 euros, reduced 5 euros.
