Nima Benati's all-female photography exhibition in Bologna

From Jan. 28 to March 8, in Bologna, Via d'Azeglio and the surrounding areas become the venue for an exhibition by young photographer Nima Benati, just over 30 years old but already an established fashion photographer. On display are 24 works to support the fight against violence against women.

Once again this year, from January 28 to March 8, the Consortium of Via d’Azeglio Merchants “lights up” the central pedestrian area in the heart of Bologna, and does so with Feminae, the collection of 24 works by Nima Benati, internationally renowned fashion photographer represented by Wannabe Management, to support the fight against violence against women. Paolo Bruciaferri, Creative Director of the project, curated by the creative agency CR3ARE, with the help of Tiziano Corbelli, Artistic Director of the Consorzio Commercianti via d’Azeglio Bologna, Marco Cremonini, President of Federmoda Confcommercio Ascom Bologna and with the support of Campogrande Concept, decided in fact to give voice to women through a pathcomposedof twenty-four images placed on luminous panels, taken by the Bologna-based photographer, which are meant to represent the idea of female empowerment, for which Nima Benati has repeatedly been a spokesperson.

Her images, of women’s bodies and faces, will tell powerful stories of emotion and strength, with the aim of raising awareness of the issue of gender-based violence, which is now more topical than ever. In past editions, Bologna’s famous “luminaries” have captured the attention of citizens and visitors alike with quotes from the best-known songs by Lucio Dalla, Cesare Cremonini and Raffaella Carrà. What has now become a tradition in the shadow of the Asinelli Tower is that the light works, once uninstalled, are auctioned off in favor of charities.

This time the Consortium, chaired by Giancarlo Campolmi and Simone Dionisi, decided to support the Cooperativa Sociale Loto Dorato, which, through the WeAreHomies project, helps and supports women in difficulty or victims of violence, accompanying them on a path that allows them to find their place in society through inclusion in the world of work, as well as offering them psychological support thanks to a team of experts.

“I am honored to have been chosen for this project, which has now become an institution in my city. My shots are meant to be a celebration of feminine strength and beauty but at the same time a denunciation of those who use violence against women, a sadly topical issue today, in front of which we cannot remain indifferent,” - says Nima Benati.

Nima Benati, born in 1992, is an established Italian fashion photographer, working in this field internationally since 2010. Always attracted by the images reported on the covers of glossy magazines, already at the age of 15 she turned her room into a mini-studio, working as a waitress after school to be able to pay for her first camera, and discovering, day after day, how to recreate the fantastic world she saw on those pages. In her first 10 years, Nima signed advertising campaigns for major fashion brands, including Dolce & Gabbana, Dior and YSL, becoming the youngest photographer to collaborate with international brands of this caliber.

In 2017, at Monte Carlo Fashion Week, she was honored as “best emerging talent” of the year, sharing the stage with Naomi Campbell and the Monegasque Royal Family, in 2019 she was included in Forbes ’ Italian ranking of the most influential talents under 30 in our country, and then again in 2020 within the European ranking for the same category. In 2022 alone, among countless campaigns, Nima photographed 12 Vanity Fair covers and her first, of four, Vogue covers, starring American actress Sharon Stone. Thanks to her passion for photography, fashion and adventurous travel, always shared, with her unique style, on Instagram, she has gained over 800,000 followers, who follow her assiduously, giving her credit for being a self-made woman.
