New environmental works by Genovese and Timossi on display at Rome's Gallery of Modern Art

From July 14 to Oct. 15, 2023, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Rome is hosting the exhibition Tellurica, featuring new environmental works by Pino Genovese and Alberto Timossi.

The Gallery of Modern Art in Rome hosts from July 14 to October 15, 2023 the exhibition Tellurica, by Pino Genovese (Rome, 1953) and Alberto Timossi (Naples, 1965). Promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali with the organization of Zètema Progetto Cultura, and curated by Davide Silvioli, the exhibition presents two unpublished environmental works, created as a pair by both artists and exhibited together with a group of photographs that testify to moments of cooperation between Genovese and Timossi, who, on this occasion, combine the characteristics of their languages. The exhibition unfolds in three different rooms of the museum, from outside to inside. At the entrance, on Via Crispi, the sculpture Innesto will be placed, and then the photographic series will be on view in the sculpture cloister, which anticipates the cloister-garden, itself the site of intervention for the installation Tellurica, from which the title of the project comes. Both the photographs and the two environmental works allow visitors to observe the possibilities of dialogue between the materials that characterize the two artists’ works, namely reclaimed wood (Genovese) and PVC (Timossi).

The exhibition links the two artists’ research starting from their common predisposition to work in the open space, with interventions on an environmental scale. On the basis of this shared aptitude, Genovese and Timossi have executed two new works for this exhibition, born from the union of their alphabets and designed to dialogue with the context that hosts them. In the works, the primal force of nature interpenetrates with the properties of human artifice, modulating each other and in response to the surrounding architecture. The result is a composite aesthetic, which renews disciplinary aspects related to the very essence of sculpture and its declination in an installation key, bringing together archaic dimension and industrial artifact, geophysical matter and synthetic material, natural model and anthropization.
