From Sept. 25, 2024, to Feb. 16, 2025, the Gallerie d’Italia’s Naples branch will host the exhibition Andy Warhol. Triple Elvis, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero.
The exhibition will present a significant focus on the works of Andy Warhol, including three fundamental graphic cycles brought together for the first time and coming from the prestigious Luigi and Peppino Agrati Collection. This important contemporary art collection, formed between the 1960s and 1980s, is now part of the historical-artistic heritage protected and enhanced by Intesa Sanpaolo thanks to the legacy of Cavalier Luigi Agrati.
Conceived as a dossier exhibition, the review aims to explore Warhol’s innovative artistic research, starting with the work Triple Elvis from 1963, the year in which the artist first worked on image repetition on the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to the Elvis Paintings at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles.
The exhibition also offers an opportunity to observe Warhol’s evolution in the 1960s and early 1970s through the unprecedented display of three important graphic cycles shown here together: Marilyn, Mao Tse-Tung, and Electric Chairs. These works testify to Warhol’s interest in pop culture and his ability to anticipate the times by transforming public figures into immortal icons.
