Standing on Top of aBuilding: Films 2008-2019 / Standing on Top of a Building: Films 2008-2019 is the first retrospective devoted exclusively to the video-film production of Liam Gillick(Aylesbury, UK, 1964), one of the most important contemporary artists internationally, who in his practice explores the cultural, political, and economic space-time of late-capitalist society, claiming in it the still possible reflection, awareness and participation of the individual. The exhibition runs at Madre in Naples from June 21 to October 14, 2019.
The exhibition, curated by Alberto Salvadori and Andrea Viliani, will feature the artist’s most important videos and films together for the first time, in an arrangement specially designed to integrate the viewing of the works into the architecture of the museum. Each room will be marked by different but mutually responsive interventions (posters, wall paintings, timed scanning of sounds with respect to the images), which will outline a real cognitive path, even before the visit. As if it were a real film, the exhibition will be anticipated by a trailer released on the museum’s channels.
