Museo Novecento dedicates a monograph to Allan Kaprow, father of Environments and Happenings

From February 20 to June 4, 2020, the Museo Novecento in Florence is dedicating a monographic exhibition to a great artist of the 20th century, Allan Kaprow (Atlantic City, 1927 - Encinitas, 2006).

Curated by Sergio Risaliti and Barry Rosen, the exhibition, entitled Allan Kaprow. I will always be a painter - of sorts. Drawings, paintings, happenings, environments, in collaboration with Allan Kaprow Estate and Hauser & Wirth, aims to cover the artist’s graphic and editorial production, videos and actions from the 1970s, concluding with rooms devoted to drawings and paintings. The exhibition will begin with the re-presentation of two of his most significant works, Words from 1962 and Fluids from 1967.

A multifaceted artist, so much so that he used various media throughout his career, he is famous for being the father of Environments and Happenings. He laid the foundation for a new conception of the artwork, interweaving art and life, and promoting an idea of conceptual, utopian, political, spontaneous, provocative and highly ironic art.

After being strongly influenced by Pollock’sAction Painting, in the late 1950s and early 1960s Kaprow abandoned more traditional means of expression and began making interactive environments and actions. His works, characterized by a contamination of performance, theater, dance and visual arts, make possible a greater integration of spaces, materials, time and people.

Tickets: Full 9.50 euros, reduced for 18-25 year olds and university students 4.50 euros. Free up to 18 years old.
