Starting tomorrow, Dec. 8, Murano glass beads will take center stage in a special exhibition set up in the spaces of the Murano Glass Museum.
The exhibition"The World in a Pearl. The Glass Museum’s pearl collection 1820-1890," curated by Chiara Squarcina and Augusto Panini, will present the complex work of cataloging and studying the Murano Glass Museum’s pearl collections, resulting in the publication of the first detailed catalog related to them.
85 sample folders containing 14,182 beads, from three cloth panels from 1863, a gift from the Society of United Factories containing 2015 beads and 266 conterie bouquets, from 91 lampwork bead bouquets, some of which are incomplete, from 8957 intact and 274 fragmented beads, and 492 conterie bouquets.
An exhibition to learn about the fascinating world of glass beads: precious decorative objects, sought-after and coveted jewelry and trade goods exported in the 19th century to colonies in West Africa, India and the Americas.
It will be possible to visit the exhibition until April 15, 2018.
