From May 23 to October 13, 2019, theOrangery of the Villa Reale and the Civic Museums of Monza welcome the exhibition From Marble to the Rocket. Masterpieces of art unveiled between tradition and innovation, a review dedicated to collecting in Monza and its surroundings with an itinerary of over seventy works that traces a history of tradition and innovation, progress and beauty, creativity and development rooted in Monza and its territory and typical of its collecting.
A review of more than 70 works aims to reveal the variety, richness and quality of the art collections of Fondazione Cariplo and prestigious museum and cultural institutions (Musei Civici di Monza, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Lissone, Fondazione Luigi Rovati and Fondazione Assolombarda) and private collections in Monza. The exhibition is curated by Martina Corgnati, art historian, with the collaboration of Lucia Molino, Fondazione Cariplo Collection manager.
The works on display (including masterpieces from the Etruscan period, paintings and sculptures by, among othersby Pietro Ronzoni, Giovanni Segantini, Emilio Gola, Achille Funi, Anselmo Bucci, Arturo Martini, Lucio Fontana, Mimmo Iodice, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Christo and Salvatore Scarpitta, among others) range from classical languages, such as painting and sculpture, to more typical experiences and forms of contemporary art, presenting works that are difficult for the general public to access. The title of the exhibition Dal marmo al missile (From Marble to the Rocket ) summarizes the common thread of the exhibition itinerary, namely the link between tradition and innovation, between the value, ethical and identity dimension of the Monza area and its propensity for development. And the double thread unravels in the exhibition along a path that ranges from a fine specimen of Etruscan art to the contemporary.
The exhibition is divided into three sections. The first two(From Places to Spaces and Presences and Personalities) housed in the Orangery of the Villa Reale; the third(Monza and Modernism) in the Musei Civici, in the city’s historic center.
