Claude Monet is featured in an exhibition in Padua, March 9 to August 4, 2024, at the Centro Culturale Altinate San Gaetano. The father of Impressionism, one of the most beloved artists of all time, comes to Veneto with the exhibition Monet. Masterpieces from the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris organized by Arthemisia together with the City of Padua and the Musée Marmottan Monet. The exhibition brings to Padua more than 50 works including Water Lilies, Irises, London Landscapes and many more, all enhanced by videos, testimonies and more. The exhibition is curated by Sylvie Carlier, general curator of the Musée Marmottan Monet, with co-curatorship by art historian Marianne Mathieu and Musée Marmottan Monet curatorial assistant Aurélie Gavoille.
Arthemisia announces that after this exhibition, works from the Musée Marmottan Monet will not be available for exhibition in Italy for several years. The works at the Paris institution are those donated by Michel Monet, the artist’s son, who holds the French artist’s largest and most important collection of paintings, the result of a generous donation dating back to 1966. These are the works that Monet cared most about, “his” works, those that the artist jealously preserved in his Giverny home until his death, from which he never wanted to part. The exhibition is therefore also meant to be a journey into Monet’s intimate world, his home and his soul.
Masterpieces such as Portrait of Michel Monet with Pompom Beret (1880), The Train in the Snow. The Locomotive (1875), London. Parliament. Reflections on the Thames (1905), as well as all the large-scale works such as the ethereal Water Lilies (1917-1920) and the evanescent Wisteria (1919-1920).
