From June 7 to September 29, 2019, the Casina delle Civette, Museums of Villa Torlonia, in Rome hosts the exhibition by Clara Garesio (Turin, 1938), Mirabilia e Naturalia. Ceramics and Papers.
Curated by Lisa Hockemeyer, the solo show features a selection of fictile works by the historic Faenza-trained ceramist: all unique specimens belonging to the artist’s most recent production, with some previously unseen works and site-specific installations conceived for the museum’s spaces.
Glaze-painted terracotta and third-fire decorated porcelain are flanked for the first time by painting and drawing works executed on Amalfi paper and conceived as preparatory sketches for ceramic creations or as stand-alone works or artist’s books, in order to recreate, with the precious furnishings of the Casina delle Civette, the atmosphere of an evocative cabinet de curiosité. From artifice to nature, from the imaginary to the real, ranging through different meanings and signifiers, Clara Garesio exhibits a summa of her artistic research that, starting from the mature awareness of the cultural and technical heritage of the great Italian ceramic tradition, leads her to experiment with an inexhaustible spirit of wonder always new expressive possibilities of the art of fire.
The exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Crescita culturale - Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, has the moral patronage of the Municipality of Atrani and is organized with the collaboration of the Humaniter Foundation and with the support of the Scuderia del Duca di Amalfi.
