Milan's Palazzo Reale hosts the first anthological exhibition dedicated to Nanda Vigo

Palazzo Reale in Milan welcomes from July 23 to September 29, 2019 the first anthological exhibition dedicated to artist and architect Nanda Vigo.

The second floor of Milan’s Palazzo Reale will host the exhibition Nanda Vigo from July 23 to September 29, 2019. Light Project.

This is the first anthological exhibition dedicated to Nanda Vigo (Milan, 1936), the Milanese artist and architect who has influenced the Italian and European art scene of the last fifty years. Through about eighty works, including projects, sculptures and installations, the exhibition curated by Marco Meneguzzo explores the artist’s production, from her beginnings in the late 1950s to her most recent experiences.

Nanda Vigo began making her Chronotopes from 1962, in line with ZERO, a transnational group of artists she joined. Participating in the avant-garde movements of the early 1960s, the artist elaborated a personal research based on light, transparency, and the immateriality of the work and of the very environment inhabited by man.

He created real environments, some in collaboration with Lucio Fontana, using tilted and cut mirrors so as to reflect a particular vision of reality.

Also famous was his collaboration in architecture with Gio Ponti for the House under the Leaf, in Malo (1965), and the Remo Brindisi Museum in Lido di Spina (1967). In the 1980s she adhered to Postmodernism, while she later returned to using neon and radiant and diffused lights for her works.

Therefore, creations that will tell the story of her entire artistic activity will be on display, and central to the exhibition will be a chronotopic environment that will occupy the mirror room. With this environment, the essence of Nanda Vigo’s art will be highlighted: an existential situation where it is possible to live transcendent experiences, beyond the materiality of the everyday to a higher reality.

The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Milan | Culture, Palazzo Reale in collaboration with theNanda Vigo Archive.
