Milan, Mario Carrieri's Beloved Flowers on display at Gallerie d'Italia

Flower-actors symbolize the tragic nature of human existence. They are the protagonists of the exhibition by Mario Carrieri, a leading figure in Italian photography since 1959, open until June 4 at the Gallerie d'Italia in Milan.

Beloved Flowers 2023: this is the title of an exhibition by Mario Carrieri (Milan, 1932) that is on view until June 4 at the Milan branch of the Gallerie d’Italia.

Mario Carrieri(Milan, 1932) has been a leading figure in Italian photography ever since he published Milan, Italy, a seminal photographic book in 1959, some of whose shots are preserved in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and other international museums. His activity in the field of architecture and design photography, sees Carrieri engaged in the four corners of the world to follow the work of the most appreciated architects of our time, from Aldo Rossi to Renzo Piano, from Norman Foster to Richard Meier and Rem Koolhaas.

The exhibition aims to present to the public a selection of works from the artistic research that Mario Carrieri has been devoting to the theme of “the tragic nature of human existence” for more than four decades. Large-scale works, including some previously unseen, imagined as large stages on which flower-actors act out the tragedy of the fragility of beauty and the consciousness of its transience. The exhibition is proposed on the occasion of the Orticola 2023 event dedicated to the intelligence of flowers, named after the writing of Maurice Maeterlinck, Nobel laureate in literature in 1911. This year’s theme aims to focus attention on plants and flowers as living organisms and not just ornaments, to grasp their intelligence, their ability to adapt, grow, and multiply. The exhibition is part of the FuoriOrticola 2023 schedule.
