Alessandro Mendini (Milan, 1931 - 2019) has always placed collaboration with other authors at the center of his work: artists, architects, designers, artisans, musicians, writers... From the editorial staff of Casabella magazine to his “New Utopia” year with Domus, from Studio Alchimia toAtelier Mendini, from Alessi production to the Groningen Museum, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of names with whom he worked on the idea that from groups and associations, however heterogeneous, small and large aesthetic revolutions can be born. The exhibition In the Garden of Eden (the Earthly Paradise that also appears in one of his philosophical diagrams), the brainchild of Antonio Colombo and curated by Stefano Casciani with the collaboration of Elisa and Fulvia Mendini, in turn brings together the works of a number of authors who have accompanied him on projects large and small. It is held at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea from November 25, 2021 to March 12, 2022.
In the exhibition and the accompanying catalog, the works presented (paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, glassware, furniture and objects, as one-off pieces or as editions) all aim to define together an intellectual, cultural and physical landscape of authors who are an important presence in the art and design scene, both Italian and international. The objective, to demonstrateMendini’s "Theorem": the idea of collective work can all the more be realized, generate important works, and have a long and happy life, the more generous the openness of each project to other voices, in a great Gesamtkunstwerk of visions, forms and people.
On view are works by Vincent Beaurin, Massimo Caiazzo, Arduino Cantafora, Stefano Casciani, Carla Ceccariglia, Pierre Charpin, Riccardo Dalisi, Michele De Lucchi, Massimo Giacon, Anna Gili, Bruno Gregory, Alessandro Guerriero, Maria Christina Hamel, Jaime Hayon, Dorota Koziara, Alex Mocika, Occhio Magico, Mimmo Paladino, Franco Raggi, Karim Rashid, Studio Job, and Oscar Tusquets. New editions by Alessandro Mendini will also be featured.
The exhibition is open until March 12, 2022.
