Opening at the Shoah Memorial in Milan is the exhibition Tu sei la memoria della mia notte (You are the memory of my night), featuring a selection of original works by Marcello Maloberti that takes its cue from the artist’s permanent installation Invitami notte a immaginare le stelle (Invite me night to imagine the stars), placed on the facade of the Memorial. Inspired by the words of Liliana Segre, the installation was conceived in 2023 to unite exterior and interior, present and past; it welcomes the visitor to offer a key to understanding the path inside the Memorial.
“Marcello Maloberti’s work that welcomes those who arrive at the Memorial,” comments Marco Vigevani, Chairman of the Events Committee Shoah Memorial Foundation, “reminds us with this exhibition of the importance of words, it comes to say their ’aura,’ in a historical moment in which they run the risk of losing their value as perhaps never before. And in this it relates strongly to the key word INDIFFERENCE, wanted by Liliana Segre at the entrance.”
Picking up the cue from this first work, Marcello Maloberti, the protagonist of the METAL PANIC solo exhibition currently at PAC, takes up the reflections around the meaning of Memory and places and enriches the original project with four new works, creating a dialogue with Senator Liliana Segre.
“Working with Senator Liliana Segre was a great honor for me. Together we created a majestic work to remember past horrors and above all not to forget them, so that they are never repeated. Her strong character and tenacity fascinate me, her experience helps us to become aware and love every moment of life,” says Maloberti.
Tu sei la memoria della mia notte (You are the memory of my night), which can be visited from Jan. 23 to March 16, is intended to be an evocative journey made up of questions to the visitor, food for thought but also provocations. The dialogue with the public concludes with an intervention by Liliana Segre, which seems almost like a request to “take charge” of Memory, and of Testimony, to the visitor himself at the end of his walk inside the Memorial, before leaving and returning outside.
“Contemporary art can be an important and valuable tool of knowledge. The artists’ works, which are also the result of significant collaborations such as that between Marcello Maloberti and Senator Liliana Segre, interpret and narrate the many realities that surround us and in which we live. Making art today means witnessing a present time without neglecting the legacy of the past and the responsibility for the future, and the PAC, as a public institution, follows this line of direction with conviction and tenacity,” says Diego Sileo, curator of the PAC and Maloberti’s exhibition.
The exhibition, curated by Diego Sileo, is produced by the Shoah Memorial Foundation of Milan in collaboration with PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea - City of Milan, and with the support of the Embassy of Germany in Italy and Galleria Raffaella Cortese, Milan - Albisola.
Hours: until Feb. 7, daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; from Feb. 8, daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
