From March 7 to May 26, 2019, the Milan Museum of Natural History is hosting the Understanding Climate Change - Experience exhibition, promoted by the Milan Museum of Natural History and produced by the Milan Museum of Natural History, City of Milan - Culture, Otm Company and Studeo Group in collaboration with National Geographic Society with the scientific curatorship of Luca Mercalli, President of the Italian Meteorological Society.
This is an immersive exhibition that envelops visitors with visual storytelling and sensory experiences that allow them to discover mechanisms and effects of the transformation of Planet Earth due to global warming. Digital, olfactory and sound installations, interactive stations and walls follow one another in the exhibition path developed over an area of 400 square meters and divided into three distinct moments: experience, awareness and call to action.
National Geographic Society’s desire is to expand the frontiers of exploration so as to increase knowledge of the planet and empower everyone to find solutions to build a healthier and more sustainable future. Human existence depends on the health, balance and sustainability of the earth, but at the same time it subjects the Earth, and everything that lives on it, to dangerous pressures.
We have reached a global turning point, and this determines the need and necessity for immediate decisive action. Society’s role is to seek the truth and in highlighting it. National Geographic Society promotes awareness globally, and proposes solutions aimed at improvement.
More than 290 photographs taken by National Geographic’s master photographers chronicle the profound transformation of planet Earth caused by global warming-from melting perennial glaciers to extreme weather phenomena. These dramatic changes affect all regions of the planet and are set to intensify in the coming decades if effective action is not put in place.
