Milan, a major exhibition at Palazzo Reale to celebrate Oliviero Toscani's 80th birthday

From June 24 to September 25, 2022, Palazzo Reale in Milan is hosting the exhibition Oliviero Toscani. Professione fotografo, curated by Nicolas Ballario, promoted by the City of Milan-Cultura, produced and organized by Palazzo Reale and Arthemisia. The exhibition, which aims to celebrate the famous photographer on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, features eight hundred shots and presents the public with iconic sections of his work and lesser-known works, with the aim of recounting the career of a man who over the years has influenced the customs of several generations and made the world discuss the most disparate issues.

On Feb. 28, 2022, the day Oliviero Toscani turned 80 years old, the City of Milan organized a sui generis exhibition to celebrate him: not an exhibition in a gallery or museum, but a widespread exhibition just for the Lombard capital, his hometown. The event, titled Oliviero Toscani 80, celebrated the great photographer for a single day with hundreds of posters.

A few months after this event that lasted only twenty-four hours, the City of Milan is offering to the public at the Palazzo Reale the works he has produced from the early 1960s to the present: images and advertising campaigns that have made him known and recognizable all over the world. The rooms of the Royal Palace will be dressed with posters on the walls, pasted as if they were on the street.
