Michelangelo stars in immersive video installation in Pietrasanta

There is time until Aug. 30 to see "Michelangelo - The Gift of Creation," an immersive video installation on Michelangelo at MuSA in Pietrasanta.

Entitled Michelangelo - The Gift of Creation. The rediscovery of form through light the immersive video installation that, at MuSA - Virtual Museum of Sculpture and Architecture in Pietrasanta, is scheduled from August 1 to 30, 2020. It is a 25-minute video projection that interprets six works by Michelangelo Buonarroti (Caprese, 1475 - Rome, 1564) preserved in Florentine museums (the Madonna della Scala, the Battle of the Centaurs, the Bacchus, the David, the sculptures of the New Sacristy and the Prisoners of the Academy Gallery) photographed in high definition by Sergio Garbari, former official photographer of the Uffizi Cabinet.

Thus, on the MUSA screens flow not the works in their entirety, but details not easily distinguishable to the naked eye, to fully grasp the sense of movement, the progression of the folds, the expressions, the alternation of planes. The transitions between one work and the next are punctuated by short quotations from the literature on Michelangelo: critical texts, correspondence, and documents of the time, from which phrases have been extracted that bring out certain characteristic elements of the six works.

The installation is the brainchild of Marta Piacente, who is entrusted with the artistic direction of MuSA and who oversaw the organization, bibliographic research and communication of the project, together with her staff. Kif Italia, under the artistic direction of Francesco Mazzei and the coordination of Giuliano Gasparotti, produced the video projections instead. The original music is by composer Furio Valitutti, and the singing voice is that of mezzo-soprano Jeehee Han. Finally, the production was handled by Maicol Borghetti’s StudioB19.

Then, in the large hall of MuSA, it is also possible to use three touchscreen stations with in-depth information on the works featured in the installation (to use them, it is necessary to follow hygienic and sanitary prophylaxis measures). The work can be viewed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7 p.m. to midnight, and admission is free. For more information you can visit the MuSA website.
