Mauro Staccioli. Environmentally sensitive: an exhibition on the recently deceased sculptor

From June 13 to September 28, 2018, Volterra is hosting the exhibition 'Mauro Staccioli. Environmental Sensitive,' the first since the artist's passing.

From June 13 until September 28, 2018, the Terme di Caracalla in Rome will host the exhibition “Mauro Staccioli. Environmental Sensitive,” the first exhibition since the death of Mauro Staccioli (Volterra, 1937 - Milan, 2018). Promoted by the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma in collaboration with the Galleria Nazionale d’ArteModerna e Contemporanea di Roma, Archivio Mauro Staccioli and Electa, the exhibition is a restrospective of Staccioli’s various artistic phases, emphasizing, as the exhibition title itself suggests, his sensitivity in sensing the fundamental relationship between the work and the place in which it is located.
On display at the exhibition are works created from the early 1970s until the year 2017: Barrier, Pyramid, Rings and Seneffe, are just some of the sculptures that can be found on display both in the basement and in the open air.

Rome’s Special Superintendent of Archaeology Fine Arts and Landscape, Francesco Prosperetti, explained, “The exhibition is a due tribute to a great Italian artist, a moment to celebrate him in the splendid context of the Baths of Caracalla. Monumental works that challenge the largest monument in Rome. This also explains the title ’Environmentally Sensitive’. The first time I met Staccioli for the setting up of his exhibition at Scolacium he was walking around the Park with a tape measure in his hand, like an ancient and noble craftsman measuring the walls and spaces to understand the place and reinvent his works. So setting up this exhibition without him was a great challenge, made possible by the affection and dedication of a close-knit team, the fruit of which we offer to all visitors to Caracalla.”

The exhibition is curated by Alberto Fiz and is a monograph published by Electa with an essay by Fiz himself, contributions by Marco Bazzini, Hugh M. Davies, Massimo Mininni, Simona Santini, testimonies by Bruno Corà, Giuseppe Panza di Biumo and finally an interview by Gillo Dorfles. Ticket price: full 8 €, reduced 4 €. Free of charge citizens under 18 years of age from the European Community and non-EU countries, Italian school teaching staff on tenure or term contract upon presentation of appropriate certificate issued by the educational institutions.
